Microsoft Office users can bring their documents with them via the cloud and a Web application called SkyDrive. SkyDrive gives users with Windows Live accounts free space to store documents and photos. These files are accessible regardless of platform. Technically, you can edit OneNote documents in Linux, if the Web browser you chose was compatible with SkyDrive. Using OneNote with a Mac requires you to have a Windows Live account, but does not require a license of Office 2013. Startups can benefit from a free cloud drive with built-in sharing capabilities and save money by working remotely.

Open Safari, or your Web browser of choice, and visit SkyDrive (link in Resources).

Log in to SkyDrive with the Microsoft Windows Live account linked to your OneNote Office installation. If you do not have an Office installation, create a Windows Live account for free by clicking “Sign Up Now” next to “Don’t have a Microsoft account?”

Click “Create,” and then click “OneNote Notebook.” SkyDrive opens a new OneNote document that you can edit from the Web browser of your Mac computer.

• You can send an email link, or post your OneNote Notebooks to popular social media sites like Facebook and Twitter by checking the box next to the OneNote Notebook you want to share.
• You can log in to your SkyDrive account from a PC version of OneNote and access notebooks you are storing in the cloud. Edits you make from that desktop PC are automatically saved to the cloud as well.
• SkyDrive also has a desktop app available for download via the SkyDrive log in page (link in Resources).
